1947

Insjöns Väveri was founded in 1947 by Ivar Hollstein in the small town Insjön in Dalarna, Sweden. Right next to highway 70 south of Leksand, he opened the factory that 75 years later still stands on the same site. There we produce quality tablecloths, napkins and towels in linen and cotton using traditional techniques, as close to handwoven as you can get with a machine.

In the old machinery, most things are the same as they used to be. The tireless looms, some of them nearly 100 years old, were far from new when the business started and are still weaving perfectly. Thanks to them, we can continue to produce textiles of unique character and quality, exactly according to old handwoven originals.

Many or our designs have a centuries-old tradition. They are wonderful cultural treasures and a part of Swedish weaving history that we maintain with great reverence. The patterns are made using traditional craft techniques and are descended from a time when woven fabrics were made to be washed, worn and inherited for generations. The result is high-density textiles with outstanding durability. Our ambition and main incentive is to keep them alive for another hundred years.

We are proud of the living textile and industrial history that continues to define our business. If you happen to be passing by, you are most welcome to see the old mechanical production, listen to the thumping of the looms and sense the characteristic scent of linen.

Since 2021 is Insjöns Väveri owned by Bookbinders Design. Both companies are owned by Ebba Kleberg von Sydow, Johan Kleberg and Johan Frestadius.
