Linen and cotton – an unmatched combination

The vast majority of our products are made from a blend of linen and cotton, known as half-linen. There are several good reasons for this.

Cotton and linen are both fantastic natural materials that lend themselves well to woven textiles in different ways. But they work best together, where they have the chance to enhance and compensate for each other's properties.

Linen is a rigid material with no elasticity. The flax fibres in linen textiles are therefore easily broken by mechanical abrasion and repeated folding. When mixing in cotton, which is elastic, the fabric gets a whole different flexibility and you avoid permanent creases.

On the other hand, linen is extremely durable. A 100% cotton kitchen towel will generally wear out after 6070 washes at 60 degrees. The equivalent wear and tear on a half-linen towel is only achieved after 700800 washes. Flax fibers also have a natural lustre that gives the fabric a shine that cannot be achieved with cotton alone.

By working with half-linen, we can hence produce textiles that can be washed and used for many years, without compromising on beauty and durability.
