Washing and care instructions

Linen and cotton fabrics should be washed at 60°C, but can also withstand temperatures between 85-90°C if necessary. Wool, on the other hand, should be hand-washed at 30°C. Spin gently, not until completely dry, and stretch while wet. If you wash too cold, e.g. by hand, red on white can leach out and make the fabric mottled. A hot machine wash at least once at 60°C will usually fix this. Tumble drying and dry cleaning are not recommended. Our tablecloths shrink about 5% in width and 7% in length after washing. Please therefore take a shrinkage allowance into account.

Detergents

We recommend colour protecting detergents for all our textiles. Red and black textiles can be soaked in vinegar water (1 part vinegar and 10 parts water) to prevent bleeding and premature wash-out. To bind the colour of red textiles, you can also add a dash of vinegar to the softener dispenser.

Towels

Towels should be washed 1-2 times before use. The linen is oily after the spinning process and needs to be rinsed thoroughly to attract water.

Soaking

New tablecloths should be soaked in lukewarm water for 20-30 minutes before washing. This prevents the fibres of the linen from breaking during washing and creating creases. Be careful not to use too hot water, especially the first few times, to prevent the colours from bleeding.

Mangling and ironing

To get the linen smooth and shiny, it can be mangled or steam-ironed at high temperature. For best results, spray the fabric with water the day before, roll it up and store it in a cold bag overnight to allow the moisture to disperse through the fabric.

Storage

Runners and long tablecloths should be stored rolled up when not in use to avoid creasing. Make sure to store them in a dark place to better preserve their colour.

Stain removal

Red wine - Use carbonated water or white wine to neutralise. If you are short of time, you can spread salt over the stain. A set-in red wine stain will be dissolved by vinegar and large amounts of salt.

Coffee - Use cold water on a fresh stain. A stubborn stain can be soaked in cold water and a dash of vinegar.

Chocolate and cocoa - Wash with cold water or rub with milk. Soap and water will make the stain settle even harder.

Fruit stains - Soak the stain with 1 teaspoon of citric acid mixed with 1 litre of water. Keep in mind that the solution may bleach coloured textiles.

Berry stains - Dried berry stains can be left to soak in fermented milk overnight. Then clean with a mix of hot water and squeezed lemon. You can also boil milk and leave the stained part in the pot for about 10 minutes.

Stearin - Put it in the freezer and then break off as much as possible. Put paper towels on the front and back and iron on top so that the stearin melts into the paper. Change the paper a few times. Finally, treat the grease stain with an enzyme-free detergent.
